Place : Hlaing Thar Yar Date : June 22, 2008 Based on the information provided by UNICEF, we went to Aung Zar Yar Min, Orphanage Monastery which is in A-Le-Ywar Village in Hlaing Thar Yar. They have only one primary school which collapsed due to the cyclone. In the Monastery, there is one small building (a relic storage place for the monks) which was only minimally damaged and the Monk has allowed it to be used as a school. The area has approximately 2000 people, 886 houses with 300 completely destroyed.

There are 50 households, victims from Cyclone from Twantay staying in that Monastery. Until now, there are 3 orphans from Bogale, Mawlamyine Gyun and Laputta. There are 72 orphans in total being cared for by the Monastery. There are also around 100 young monks (Ko Yin) many of whom are also orphans. We took 3 Medical Doctors with us and provided medical assistance to the needy. The most common diseases are skin infection, chest infection, worms, and general malnourishment.
