Place : Thanlyin Date : July 18-21, 2008 Local people from Bogyoke Village (west part) approached us for food assistance. There are 98 houses with 20 houses ruined and 5 houses totally destroyed. Out of 5 houses, 1 has not yet been rebuilt. It is headed by female household with 6 children and she can't afford to rebuild. She is now living with her neighbour. The number of population is around 490. It is approximately 1 mile from Yangon and accessible by car. Many of them are casual labours but some work at garment factory and some at Thanlyin oil field. They have deep well and many houses have water tanks. They have Station Hospital and health facilities are available. There is one primary school which has minimal damage. Our donation
Our proposed trip this week 1) Bogale (Phoe Oo Zan, War War Win & 3 more villages to be provided by UNICEF) Our future plan We are planning to phase out from our emergence relief works especially distribution of food and household utensils by the end of July 2008. Nevertheless, based on the needs, we might consider distribution of food aids and household utensils on a case by case. With this gradual phase out from emergency relief works, we will shift our efforts towards the rehabilitation and rebuilding lives of the affected people. For the time being, we are considering based on our field visit and upon the request of the needy to provide aid to agricultural sector such as fuel supply, maintenance fees for tillers, seedlings for plantings, health education training and moral support of the people. Since the area is very wide geographically, it’s impossible to do these rehabilitation activities in all villages with our capacity i.e. all our works rely mainly on volunteers. Therefore, we must identify the 3 – 5 villages in Labutta, Bogale and Mawlamyaing gyun. We will thus continue our fundraising activities. |
